Chinese Herbal Medicine FAQ

Chinese herbal medicine is a system that uses plant-based remedies to support the bodys natural healing process. Formulas are created by combining specific herbs tailored to your unique health needs, helping to restore balance and address underlying issues.

The length of time that you’ll need to take herbs depends on your specific health condition and goals. Some people find improvement in a few weeks while others may need longer term support. Your treatment plan will be customised and may evolve as your health progresses.

When prescribed correctly, side-effects from Chinese herbal medicines are rare. Some individuals may experience mild digestive changes or reactions as their body adjusts, but this is uncommon. We closely monitor your response and adjust your formula as needed.

Absolutely. For some menopausal/perimenopausal women, HRT alone is effective while for others, Herbal Medicine may be all that’s needed. In our clinic we can help you use both approaches: herbs can complement HRT. However, it’s best to avoid starting multiple treatments at the same time. For example, if you choose to begin hormone therapy (HRT) we usually recommend waiting about three months to assess its effectiveness before introducing herbal support. This approach allows us to adjust treatment as needed and prescribe herbs when they will have the greatest benefit and predictability.

Our herbal formulas are custom blends, typically consisting of 5 to 10 herbs chosen specifically for your needs and adjusted as treatment progresses. We source only the highest quality, whole herbs which are prepared in our in-house apothecary. These herbs are packaged into individual portions for you to cook at home with clear instructions provided. When suitable, we may also offer herbs in a powdered form for your added convenience.

Yes, Chinese herbal medicine can be safely used by individuals of all ages including children and seniors. Doses and formulas are carefully adjusted to ensure they are gentle, effective and appropriate for the patients’ age and health condition.
